  • Any ideas on what V8 this is??

Does anyone have any ideas on what V8 this may be? Right now this is sitting in a 48' F1 that I'm thinking of playing with. Note that the distributor is in the rear but the intake has a front hole as well.

That was what my buddy thought but he wasn't sure. I told him I thought the numbers looked to be GM. Any idea on displacement?

I think it's a Pontiac, too. Can you check the casting number?

I'd say it's newer than 50's - here's a factory installed Pontiac in a 58 GMC - note the water pipes coming off the front of the heads.

GMC used Pontiac engines from 1955-59. 1955-59 Pontiac engines had reverse flow cooling. Hence, the water inlets on the heads.

I've run the numbers guys and posted the info in the Build thread for the 48' F1. It's a 1960 303 HP 389. I have Harry trying to dig me up a square bore carb then it's time to see if she'll fire. I does turn over and builds compression so it's looking better day by day. I'll know more when I get back from my trip to Sacramento on Monday.
