  • Alberta exhaust regulations???

I was just curious if anyone knows about running zoomies, open headers, or straight pipes in Alberta?
I know some laws have changed, but they were aimed toward ricers I think?
I wanted to run short straight pipes out the front fenders on my car, but can't get any good answers on if this is legal?

run a homemade "full" exhaust with mufflers past the rear end and 6" away from any opening then get it saftied and then you can build your side pipe or what you were thinking of. but the real killer is that your exhaust need to be past your rear end to be legal thats why almost all the 32 fords and even something as small as a model a roadster still has full exhaust all the way back on it

There was a bylaw brought in a few years ago in Edmonton for noisy exhausts. It was aimed primarily at the motorcyle(Harley) riders, but I believe if your exhaust is loud enough, they may pull you over and test the noise levels.

        ^this. ;)
build an exhaust that exits past the cab and out the back or any opening windows. then after inspection, you can do whatever (be smart obviously and dont gas yourself to death in a closed cab car). but if its loud (over 98db) you may get grief. i believe 98db is the legal limit.
and yes, that law is primarily aimed at the harley guys.

Ha right about the harley guys.... if i remember correctly about the db limit.... factory exhausted harley bikes if tested were too loud....
            Sorry off topic...

But right about getting the inspection done with a "proper" exhaust, then hack away. Theres also exhaust cut out valves ive seen where if you want it loud... just flip the switch or pull the cable.

                Hey!!
I parked beside you at the St. Albert car show at the century casino this summer.
I never got a chance to chat with you about that ride, went the whole day not knowing who the owner was... then you hopped in and left.
                really cool ride, great detail.
And, that exhaust musta been baffled, wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. Click image for larger version
