I know!!! My son can't figure out why I was so calm. My wife thinks I am finally the calm gentle type dad and all her training paid off. Meanwhile, I have been looking around for old car/truck bodies already.

The 12 valve cummins are such a solid and simple engine not to mention customizable... I just finished bolting on a piston air compressor to the accessory drive...

Sweet Charlie Bob! I was hoping to see a mercedes build! Is that a 4 cyl? How's the power and is there any upgrades possible? I've looked over a few mercedes v8 diesels at junk yards thinking they'd be sweet in a build!

Thanks, Burnin#2. It is the 5 cylinder turbo that was available through 1985, identified by MB as OM617. Incredibly dependable. Very noisy!

There is some upgrade potential, but it is very expensive and limited. Stock about 125 hp and 200 tq.

From a performance and upgrade standpoint, the OM606 diesel is the one to have. There are hard to find in the U.S., as they were available only in 1998-99. Common in Europe. Don't know about availability in Canada. Finns and others are getting 500 hp or so with turbo and injector upgrades. Would love to have one!

The 7.3 IdI engine seems to have been overlooked as a rat rod engine.......I'm working on that.
