Default Faith Love and Hot Rods Tour 2016

I stuck the last four + years of this build over in the 60's Truck Section, mainly because it was a dedicated build that I wanted to try and honor my Dad with... he's a great man that touched a lot of lives in a wide variety of ways. He made me the car nut I am, so it just seemed right.

He's not doing so hot these days, so we took a chance and loaded up in the 62 to head South to celebrate 25 years of marriage and give my father a ride to his favorite burger joint for a shake.

So we jokingly called it the "Faith Love and Hot Rods Tour of 2016" as we kept our friends in the loop via social media and in the process did 1500 miles and twice as many memories.

These are just a few of them...

    Por la gracia de Dios!

Youngwood PA to Charleston SC on Monday to celebrate 25 years of marriage with Heather and I on Folly Beach where we first met in the US Navy in 1987.

The Main Gate I used to guard is now gone, but the memories remain. Found our old apartment too in the North area off Dorchester Road.

Tuesday afternoon was back on the road from Charleston SC to Hinesville / Ft. Stewart in the Savannah GA area...

No matter how many times I wander off in this life it always make my heart swell to see this when I finally make it back...

Then when I see that little green house and realize I'm back there's a real peace that comes over me.

Being born in Savannah, but raised up in Hinesville GA right up against Fort Stewart Army Base in the 60's - (Camp Swampy) to those blessed few who have bivouacked there...

For the longest time it was The Victory Division and their battle cry "First to FIGHT!"... then I remember the Third and the "Rock of the Marne"

I'm 54 years young now so I remember the helicopter training for Vietnam, the sound of artillery out on the range, and tank training on the Red Cloud Tank Table...

many people can't imagine the history of such a place as where I grew up, but much of what we enjoy each day is the result of their efforts.

It was 102 degrees on the ground the day before we left to come back, but that's nothing compared to what our guys are dealing with over there now.

It's because of them and all that they are to us, that I will never let go of the land that I love without a fight.

If you can't stand behind our troops maybe you try standing out in front of them.

Dad's health is not the greatest so if we were ever going to do this the time was now. When we got there he was in the midst of an event that could have gone either way, but somehow managed to gut it out and by morning was up in his chair smiling at me when I walked in.

By the afternoon he wanted to ride in the 62, so we loaded up and went for shakes and a cruise down Hwy 84 and back.

His words are few these days but he did say milkshake and hot rod - so we were on the same page one more time.

    Hell yeah

Friday early we rolled out Northbound for the Keystone state and Mama and Daddy were sound asleep when we left but his care-giver made us a thermos of coffee for the ride home.

Not too much in words or pictures as we made our way home without incident or issue.

When we got home my son Ray, said let's throw the bullets back on the 62, she earned them. So I did that and went to the VFD for cruise night after driving all day.

It was odd being the only vintage vehicle on the road for the entire trip; never saw another - not once. Seems like we used to always see at least something as we traveled, anyway... I digress.

Way too many emotions to convey in a way that serves any good here, but I would ask you to remember what matters most and go for it no matter what.

    JUST GO FOR IT.

Thanks for the pics and the story. Not sure how many others this resonated with, but I know it did with me. Those memories are real; hot rods, Dad, God, and Country.

Thank you for sharing the story. I share a similar story with my dad and grandpa. Love for God, cars and country.
