    Default Finally Getting Started - Lakes Modified 27 Tudor

    Well, I finally got started last Friday for a Father's Day weekend thrash to see what my 11 year old son and I could get done. 2x4x3/16 tube frame, 27 Tudor body hacked up by previous owner. We cut all tubing on Haror Freight horizontal band saw I got for free and TIG welded it on my MIller XMT304 with 1/8" tungsten and filler rod with 200 AMPs. Please let me know what you think. Everything is just 1" tacks and will be finished welded and braced soon. I have patch panels for the large cutouts the last guy cut out. Has 144" wheel base with the rear suspension and is just over 5 feet tall but now my son can have a back seat.

    Now that's a build! Looks like you're running a '38-'41 front suspension. I'm doing the same. Made the same mod to my bones, too. Keep the pics comin'!

    Yes the suspension will be open and visible. I like the look of the lakes modified cars and have never seen this on a sedan. Thanks OLDDAVE! Roof line at windshield post is 47". Yes, for the suspension. Running 38-41 front and rear with Wide Five wheels. I need new tires desperately. Next is the body patch panels and chopping/hanging the doors and motor mounts.

    Last weekend added the patch panels for the cutouts on rear quarter panels and cut the doors to fit. 8" chop. Made frame mounts for body, just tacked for now but work well. 2x4 tubing running perpendicular to frame rail running under each substructure brace in floor. Approx. 5-6" long depending on which one running from outside of frame to outer body seam. Will have hockey puckes drilled and will bolt thru tubing, hockey puck, and floor brace. Need to cut the windshield header next. Windshield is too small and looks odd compared to all other windows. Have the bungs for the split wishbones with rod ends and sleeves made for bolting thru the frame. Making progress.

    I will check it out. Finish welded the entire frame Friday night. Welded in bungs for radious rods and sleeves on frame Saturday. Used 1" bar stock drilled out with 21/32" hole for 5/8" bolt. Borrowing a cherry picker Tuesday to set motor and make up some motor mounts. Need to still add bracing for front spring perch and the fish plates, but have all of that cut and ready.

    A lot of crickets out there.

    I made up some solid motor mounts and installed the motor and tranny. Also, revamped the rear suspension rails. Rear is just mocked and will get bracing. Making good progress for only working on this since Father's Day weekend and never building a car before. Also, my chief mechanic is my 11 year old son. Let me know what you think.

    Went to Iola, WI car show/swap meet this weekend with my boy. Found 2 Wide Five brake drum/hub/rim/tire combinations for a great deal. Brought a set of calipers and drums measured right at 12". Also found a yoke for the rear banjo axle in a $5 bin (new, never used), a start of the air cleaner I want to build, and a gauge cluster from a '52 Merc. Overall, great weekend mind you hot and humid.

    Build is looking good and got to post some pics of your swap meet swag. Keep up the work, its hot here in va and makes it harder to want to go out to the garage after work but I know if I want to drive this thing I have to keep trucking.
