i was underneith my 59 chevy apache yesterday and realized i need to replace some floor.. and some mounts.. and the rockers.. and the cab corners.. and the inner and outer hinge pockets.. etc.. its a little worse than previously thought.. i still dont have any real money into this truck outside of the motor and 4 speed i picked up for it though..

soo.. i was thinking i could just channel the body while im doing all of this, if i actually do all of it.. and since i need to replace alot of floor, its kinda easier..

what i need to know is, how much work is this seriously going to be.. i know im going to have to make floors, mounts, trans tunnel, new rails that will allow my bedsides to sit lower, and have a bunch of work in the front end to make the grill etc line up again..

do i need to remove the glass before i pick up the cab?
should i brace the cab before i pick it up?
how should i mount the cab when i lower it?
is this the stupidest thing youve ever heard of?

any and all info is greatly appreciated..

Hi civic2eg - just lifted a '54 Chev cab off frame - left all glass in - rolled windows down and passed 2 straps thru to overhead hoist. Use a spreader bar on each side to keep straps at front and back for balance. Fenders were already off; as 1 Hotrod wrote, take all front sheetmetal off, it also affects the balance. Good Luck
1 Hotrod - I couldn't bring your pix in; however , it may be my settings that are off.

Hi 1 Hotrod - Grrreat pix. Lots of good work in there. Really appreciate the chance to view them. I've got 2 '55 F100's to work with. One is intended for pretty much stock appearance; The other you might say will be radical as hell. I need a p/u truck I can look over made in USA, but improved in Ariz.

hotrod - that looks like **** nice work.. im hoping that i can make my truck look as nice..

pete 3 - thanks for the info, i was just afraid of cracking my glass.. ive got the big back window which is a bit hard to find..

hopefully ill be pulling my cab soon to at least fix my floors and mounts.. when i get to that point im gonna take a serious look as to what what itll take to move my grill, bumper, etc down to match..
