I am at the point in my build to where I need to see if I can get this old engine fired up. I motor has been setting for several years but turns over great with a wrench. Can someone walk me through how to wire it just enough to fire it off. I wanted tp see first if it will run and if so does it make banging noises and need overhauling. ...LOL
What wire goes to what and will I need to buy any parts like ignition solinoid, etc....to do this?
Any help will be great appreciated.
Thanks, Larry

:shout: here's what to do, you need a fully charged 12 volt battery, hook up the negative cable directly to the engine, hook up the positive cable to the top terminal on the starter motor, now attach a wire to the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid, by rubbing this wire to the positive side of the battery you will engage the starter motor and the engine should turn over. If you have a point style ignition system, you will need to run a wire from the positive side of the battery to the + post on the ignition coil. now rub your starter wire to crank the engine and see if it will run.
if you have HEI ignition, you'll need to run a wire from the bottom side of the distributor cap to the 12 postive side of the battery. the top of the distributor cap is mark as to what terminal it is. good luck.

Just wanted to thank GregAllMighty for his reply to my post being he is the only one around here willing to give a helping hand to a fellow builder.
The motor runs pretty good but will need a valve job. I will replace the cam and lifters also. The botton end is good so it gets new gaskets for now.
Thanks again GregAllMighty for your reply.
