I went down to a local semi truck boneyard today and they have LOTS of gauges and panels out of various trucks , kenworth, peterbuilt, international, etc..... I am just trying to figure out how I would get the speedo hooked up. There are both mechanical and electronic gauges to choose from. The electronic tach would be relatively easy to figure out, but the speedo is where I am not sure of. Any ideas?

the speedo cable is located on your transmission.

I was curious if anybody had ideas on how to adapt speedos to different cables or how to hook up electronic speedos when the magnetic pickup isn't with the gauge. Gee I thought maybe the headlight wirng was used for the speedo.

haha.. I had the same questions, I understand how speedos work I just havent messed with them too much. Can speedos just be switched by hooking up the existing speed cable in ur vehicle or would that have to be replaced too?

Some can, some can't. If you can't swap them outright because of different ends, places like United Speedometer Service can hook you up (pun intended).

a speedo shop.
(like united) or local can work with the gearing, or make you a little "transmission" for the trans side of the cable. used to see them alot. a housing that configures the ratios to match speed for your gearing, tiresize etc.
