I recently purchased a Ford pickup cab on ebay. It was supposed to be a '34 but I'm not sure. How do you tell the difference? The cab is a little rougher than I expected, and the doors are missing the bottom 3"s both inside and outside. I have a '40 Ford pickup frame that I want to box and narrow to channel cab over and use both front and rear ends from the same. I will probably use a flat crossmember up front and kickup the rear some. I'll figure that out when I get to the mock-up stage. The suicide fronts look very cool but I think I'll keep the axle under the frame. I may switch to a dropped axle, probably a Superbell I beam. I'm also wondering what steering box to use?( I have the '40 box and a mustang box but with the cost of rebuilding and the availability of rebuilt boxes at swapmeets it seems best to know what you want to use and go after it. I would like to stay with drum brakes, what does self energizing mean? I'd love to kick around thoughts and ideas on this build. Now I'm banginona32 33 34?

Welcome.
It looks like you've got a '33.
There is another post on this site that deals with '32-'34 cab identification, that might help.

That cab looks cherry compared to my '34 International ;)
You should be able to even the doors out with a patch panel....they usually need new metal at the bottom anyhow....this will also allow for you to frame them in and make them sturdy.

Self energizing or "bendix" brakes float on a pin mounted to the backing plate. This allows the shoes to push into the drums with more force when applied. It also makes them a lot easier to addjust. The most common upgrade is the Ford F100 front brake ass'y. I believe '56 up to mid sixtys. the later ones also have self adjusting shoes! Hope this helps...........Nice truck buy the way, I have a '34, I believe you have a '33. The '32 firewall is different.
Good luck.

OK, so the band that wraps around the back of the cab is the same on both a 32 & 33, narrow ? Where the 34 gets wider at the top ? Just trying to get my i.d. straight as well........Thanks

OK, So in distingiushing 32, 33, and 34 pickups, 1932 shares the same firewall as cars w/ the narrow band in rear. In 1933 Ford changed the firewall and left the narrow band in the rear. The 1933 and 1934 Ford share the same firewall and the 34 has the wider band. Were they trying to add a little more leg room and stiffen up the rear of the cab??

Don't know why they did it, but yes, the info on here is right. 32's have an unboltable flatter firewall, 33s and 34s have the same riveted on firewall, but only 34's have the wide band. What you have there is a 33 cab.
