gear ratio

Is there a way to tell what gear is in a rearend without counting the teeth on the ring and pinion then dividing. This is the only way I know how, but want to pull the chunk out of the 9" to see. It works fine but the speedo is off 10- 14 mph. And want to correct it. Thanks for any info.

If its an open rear its hard to tell. Is the speedo electronic or mechanical and what is it in...Dan
